Guangzhou tests 19 million people in 10 days

Chinese officials imposed new travel restrictions on Guangdong province amid a recent surge of COVID-19 cases. As of June 7, all people leaving the province are required to present a negative nucleic acid test result within 48 hours from departure.

Additionally, Guangzhou citizens under quarantine and in lockdown areas are expected to stay home, whilst those with a «yellow» health code are asked to take a COVID-19 test on the same day.

According to the statement released by the authorities of Nansha district on June 5, the area has been placed under lockdown, public transportation has been suspended, whereas various public venues were ordered to close in order to contain the latest outbreak.

Overall, Guangzhou has already tested more than 19 million registered and temporary residents from 11 districts of Guangzhou. Mass testing took only 10 days.
