First 6G experimental satellite will test the use of terahertz communications in space

The 6G satellite was sent into orbit with other 12 satellites by a single Long-March-6 carrier rocket from the Taiyuan cosmodrome, province of Shanxi. Whilst, the technology is still under development and is not yet available for commercial use, the 6G satellite was among three Chinese satellites that were successfully into orbit. It will be the first time for terahertz communications to be tested in space.

The new communication technology is expected to be 100 times faster than 5G, and is equipped with a remote sensing management system that would allow to scan Earth for crop disasters, fire preventions, mountain floods, etc.

The satellite carries other experimental devices that will further need to be tested and further developed to overcome obstacle in research, design and environmental impact before becoming available in the market.
