Volkswagen Group has started construction of a new battery-electric-vehicle (BEV) platform factory at Volkswagen Anhui. The plant will be the group’s third electric vehicle production facility in China. The first factory is in Anting near Shanghai, and the other production line is located in Foshan.
The Volkswagen Group MEB modular car platform was developed to exclusively manufacture electric vehicles. By 2025, Volkswagen China is expected to deliver up to 1.5 million electric cars.
As noted by Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, the new factory «is set to become a global hub for e-mobility innovation and a cornerstone of the Group’s decarbonization strategy». The plant itself will be powered by green energy, including wind power and solar energy.
It is estimated for the factory to be completed by mid-2022, whereas the production is forecasted to launch in the second half of 2023.
